I think it's because liberals tend to occupy positions of cultural prominence - big media, academia, entertainment - and thus have greater exposure to the general public and to conservatives themselves, making them appear more influential than they perhaps actually are.

Cons have very successfully created media counterculture which celebrates their views more thoroughly than liberal/neutral media enterprises celebrate liberal ones.

Right. But their media is generally more populist and therefore less sophisticated and less influential over the people who matter. Liberals have the entire entertainment industry, which has greater influence over ordinary people than any news organisation.

On of the unpopular opinions I confessed today is that people very overestimate the ability of entertainment industry to influence opinion. :)

I think it has considerable influence over stupid people. You only need to see the number of likes/retweets people like Kanye get, and when these figures tell people to buy X/boycott Y, people do it in droves.

I disagree strongly with this characterization of “stupid people.” Empirical evidence does not support.

Thank you for this but a chapter of my dissertation is on the moral persuadability of fiction. Have researched empirical data pretty thoroughly.

Then please, by all means, educate me. How much influence would you say the entertainment industry has on the general public?
