The legitimate concern about these statements (our guys issued one too) is that it sounds like "give no quarter"--which would be a war crime

Yeah well, the West has been committing war crimes with full public knowledge for decades. So it's a bit odd to focus on this one statement.

...make sure we don't say stuff like this that can be misinterpreted, without correcting it.

That's simply not true. I can provide you with a list of British jihadis in my area who have been extrajudicially killed.

They've been killed IN COMBAT, ON THE BATTLEFIELD. That's WAR, not a war crime (nor a crime of ANY sort).

Not true. Some were killed without ever commencing hostilities, while in safe houses, by drone strikes. Their comms were monitored, which showed they were dangerous, but that couldn't lead to a prosecution. The legal grounds hinge completely on whether it is "self-defence".

And this itself is open to gov discretion. Hence, a gov can carry out an extrajudicial killing of any of its citizens, and if it claims self-defence, it can essentially get away with it.

Not really. Legal rationale has nothing to do with self-defense; it's war, like I said--and bkack-letter international law.

Again, that's simply false. Read this: https://www.theguardian.com/world/2015/sep/07/drone-british-citizens-syria-uk-david-cameron …

If it wasn't true, I wouldn't have said it. Cameron's explanation was A METAPHOR, for laypeople not schooled in international law.

Oh, I see, statements that disagree with you are metaphors, heheh. Okay, how about this: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/terrorism-in-the-uk/11848600/David-Cameron-Britain-mounted-fatal-air-strike-in-Syria-live.html …
