Are you saying we must accept that for one such imagined case where it may land some in the list wrongfully?

Once again, no one's arguing that grabbing butts shouldn't be a crime. The argument is that categories of crime, and particularly sex crime, are currently too broad.

The argument was, quite explicitly, 'grabbing someone's ass is not assault' and 'no one wants to live where it's considered assault'.

"Assault" is a very vague term, and even if we consider its strictly legal sense, we find ourselves in a quagmire because the definition varies according to jurisdictions. This in itself could be an argument for why it's not helpful to define ass-grabbing simply as assault.

ALL forms of assault (at least here) conform to basic criteria. The penalties vary depending on type, determined case-by-case.

The only basic criteria they have is physical touch. The problem arises not so much in the courtroom, but in the streets, which are filled with people who don't understand the nuances of the different kinds of assault. I think this is what James was trying to get at.

Then James needs to work on his words. What he said and what you're supposing he meant aren't identical.

How do they differ?

Replying to @ClaudeL1979 @G_S_Bhogal and
Explicit assertion that grabbing someone's ass is not and should not be considered assault.

Well, as I said the word "assault" is vague. I presumed James meant the legal sense, in which case I'd agree with him. Butt-grabbing should be prosecuted because women can't be expected to physically defend themselves from men. But it shouldn't be categorized with, say, rape.
