I think we are used to it. TV has been doing this for more than half a century.

It's not as oscillatory though. With TV, you have half an hour or so of a certain tone, and then you have the end credits and the adverts, which act as a palate cleanser. With Twitter, you can have a funny cartoon meme and then immediately below it a pic of a dead kid.
