Gun deaths won't convince NRA-types of need for gun control, for they consider gun deaths an acceptable cost of 2nd amend. Better to show 2nd amend is obsolete, with 2 arguments - US govt is not hostile to its citizens. - If it was hostile to its citizens, guns wouldn't stop it.

The point isn't that the US Government is hostile currently it's in case it ever does & you underestimate what 100m + armed people can do

Tanks & choppers are not invincible & USA is a large country. guerilla warfare on such a scale would be near impossible for military to win

You really think the US government is going to carpet nuke its own country?

I think it's about as likely as it becoming hostile to its own citizens (i.e. not likely at all).

Currently it does seem unlikely but that's not the point of the 2nd amendment

You can't predict with 100% certainty that the govt system will not become tyrannical at some point in the future.

I can't predict that the ceiling won't cave in. Does that mean I should spend my life outdoors?

No but it does mean you do maintenance & make sure to have homeowners insurance

That's the thing though, guns are no insurance against tyranny - not when the government has jets and tanks and choppers.
