There need to be more horror movies with legitimate Lovecraftian/cosmic horror elements.
Guillermo Del Toro was gonna make At the Mountains of Madness. Tom Cruise and James Cameron were gonna produce it. ILM was gonna do the effects. Budget was gonna be $150 millions. Movie was gonna be awesome. Warner Bros said no. The bastards.

The problem is, a truly Lovecraftian movie would need to be extremely pessimistic, tonally and philosophically. And pessimism doesn't exactly set the box office on fire.
