Most lefties want to beat Islamist extremism, but they refrain from anti-Islamist activism because they know the right is already on it. Likewise, most right-leaners want to beat white supremacism, but they know they can leave it to the left. The 2 groups are thus symbiotic.
I don't think identity politics helps anyone tbh. All it does is entrench social divisions.
