Interesting, but how does the left engage in identity politics at the same time as wanting to suppress extremism? Surely aims run counter?

I don't think identity politics helps anyone tbh. All it does is entrench social divisions.

Possibly. I think that also, the left loves how Islamists piss off the right, and the right loves how Nazis piss off the left.

I think they do generally regard them as problems because Islamism and Nazism are incompatible with democracy, which both the left & right (excluding extremists) support. But they differ in their priorities; the left thinks the bigger problem is Nazism, the right thinks its Islam

I don't think that's the case at all. The right encompasses a variety of worldviews, from libertarianism (freedom & individualism) to conservatism (tradition and Christianity). Neither of these worldviews, in their present incarnation, is compatible with racism.
