Prior to 1987, The UK had a large range of firearms allowed to be owned, including semi autos and handguns; barring Hungerford was peaceful
Hard to be convinced by these. No proof Brits would be more responsible with guns than Yanks. Seems to me guns would raise UK murder rates.

Gun ownership has never been close to as ubiquitous in the UK as it is in the States, due to firearms acts 1920/1937/1968.
