Usually a fan of brevity in writing, but so much is essential world-building so I'm struggling to cut :~)

I think with these types of novels, bigger = more immersive. But 1 thing I've learned is cutting/abridging is *always* possible

I've cut down from 140k so far, and I'm only on 3rd round of edits :~) Might see more deadwood when it has rested, I suppose.

Yep. I once wrote a 60,000 word screenplay. Honestly believed it was lean as can be. After 5 days of edits, it was 30,000 words

screen and tv *are* a different kettle of fish tho>no room for lengthy character-descriptions the play has to show

That actually sounds more the sort of writing I'm used to - Much more comfortable writing short stories & flash.

Next to novels, screenplays are a breeze. You only need Final Draft software and this: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Hollywood-Standard-2nd-Complete-Authoritative/dp/1932907637/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1472323551&sr=8-1&keywords=the+hollywood+standard …

...wouldn't wanna say screen/tv is a breeze tho (unless ye write for dutch crap-telly that is ;-) )

Not a breeze per se, but relative to novel-writing. Of course, it has its own difficulties (e.g. exposition)
