Assumes white-collar work was ever done from the office. It hasn't been (at least since open-plan eliminated workplace productivity). Office = meetings (+ ersatz social life). Home = actual work. What businesses appear to have discovered is that the meetings were mostly needless.

I've always assumed that meetings were only ostensibly about the topic of the meeting, but really about cementing social bonds in order to facilitate teamwork.

Curious if this will drive demand for bigger houses. More people will want dedicated offices in their homes.

My company is currently looking for a new office building. I'm pretty sure that we will get more flexible workspaces from now on. Honestly, working from home *can* be a win-win situation.

Do you worry that these same companies with new found data on their staff productivity, will realize 40% of the staff actually do all of the work , making 60% of staff ,(mostly management) redundant ,?

Possibly but work is also a social activity where office politics is often the most important game in town. Working from home greatly increases risk of getting chopped.

Agree, this will be a completely different game. I think 2,3 or even 6 months is a short period for us to make conclusions and understand the long term social impact.

I think that's relatively accurate But these things go in waves. Facilities managers will win and reduce office footprint in the short term but then HR departments will come back and businesses will start occupying offices again, but maybe not to previous levels
