I've somehow never been able to fully wrap my head around the fact that these people (and people from any time gone by) existed, and for them that was the present, modernity, the edge of history.

Fantastic. I particularly noticed all the women in headscarves (probably coming from church at Easter - note the Passion Play placard.) Worth showing to people who call the hijab unBritish.

Everyone covered their heads. Class was denoted by headgear - this only stopped in the late 1950s. We are not so advanced as we think... Great video footage.
