Odd to juxtapose that which we can (and should) condemn and control at the human scale with things over which we have far less control / certainty. The brain simply evolved to respond in proportion to spatiotemporal certainty of threat. It’s really that simple.

We don't have much more control over terrorism than we do over disease outbreaks, so I'm not sure I fully agree with your first sentence. I agree with your second sentence, absent the word "simply". Your third sentence is very uncharacteristic of you.

It might be so for instrumental reasons, engaging the latter requires expertise(if a basic grasp of statistics), the former require you to engage in status competition against easy targets(the criminals, terrorists and dictators) - which is the default mode of operation for many.

The former acts are done by humans ‘wilfully’ (if you can call it wilfully anyway), the latter are perceived as non-human or out of control?

I don't think we are underestimating climate change or COVID19. I think we have the correct picture of the virus now, and I think we are infinitely overestimating climate doom.

Interesting. This is a religious morality question. Assuming humans have power over their actions, as opposed to, the control of events being in the power of the creator. Who obviously cannot if you *believe* in good; have evil intent. Free will vs destiny.
