      Gurindoor Retweeted Elon Musk

We idolize those who excel in a particular field, giving them the hubris to mislead themselves & others on matters they know little about. Musk’s sci-fi novel quote may be wise in response to a terrorist attack, but as a reaction to a pandemic it’s not just idiotic but deadly.https://twitter.com/elonmusk/status/1239031946962808832 …

True, although one could legitimately ask: what "particular field" do you think Elon excels at? Business? Engineering? Rocket science? AI? Financial markets (e.g. Paypal)? Neuroscience? Memes? Motivational leadership? Visionary action in anticipation of exponential curves? 1/2

Business. He's often confused as a science/tech genius but that actually applies to his employees.

He has an undergraduate degree in engineering, sure, but as far as I know he hasn't published any academic papers or invented anything himself. His real expertise is in envisioning projects and organizing teams of engineers to realize them.

"as far as I know" is the key component of that tweet. I followed you after that mega-thread on concepts for thinking, so I can only refer you back to that. If you would like to educate yourself, I invite you to learn more about Elon Musk. If not, continue on your merry way.

Maybe point out why I was wrong instead of just telling me I'm wrong?

Fair enough. But you need to read/watch a lot more than fits in a tweet. I've put together a somewhat ramshackle page of references, but you could probably find more on your own. http://www.permanent-tesla.info

Thanks, but this seems to me like a gish-gallop. It's a lot of information and none of it seems to prove the claims you were making.

Yes, well your impatience after a couple of hundred characters is pretty much an indicator of the results you'll obtain. There are people out there who are close to spending that notional 10K hours of mastery on the topic of Elon Musk. You can seek them out or not. I'm done here.

Actually, I forgot the main point: you're arguing "against authority", without considering the merits of the statement on its own. Saying that fear is an inhibitor of rational behaviour is the argument. I happened to think it's a very valid point. That's all I came to say.
