Blue collar workers still have to put their noses to the millstone though, so this would also serve to further isolate white collar workers from blue collar workers and their fellow employees.

It's very dependent on personality I think. I don't work at all well at home unless I've got an impending "hard" deadline. (I spend most of my weekly homeworking day in cafés.) I love my office, it's my own private space, and I don't want to be "emancipated" from it, thanks!

So, funny story for you. Four years ago I was an interim dean. Created a work from home policy for staff and clamored for a virtual office app. New dean comes in and convinces HR to discredit the policy and craps all over my idea for a virtual office. Told it was pointless. Hmm..
