This is wrong. Alcohol-based sanitizers kill viruses like coronavirus & influenza because they disrupt the lipid bilayer they're encapsulated in. This is also how they kill bacteria. This has been already been said but it needs to be said again. This is dangerous misinformation. https://twitter.com/jasminjoestar/status/1234255856926986241 …

Its still misinfo..She opens with 'do not use hand sanitizers, they dont work, Im a scientist' and the strength of the claim is 'washing your hands is a bit better'. Most people seeing it will think hand sanitizers do nothing & might stop using them at times they would be useful
-
To be fair, she says not to use it as a replacement for hand washing. That doesn’t equate to “stop using hand sanitizer”.

“Sanitizer will do nothing for the coronavirus” and “washing is preferable” are not interchangeable, they simply wanted to keep the viral (heh) tweet while not admitting it was wrong. Also muted it and hid a bunch of replies. “Scientist”, lol.

She started off with "Sanitizer will do nothing for the coronavirus". And after being called out on it said "My tweet isn’t wrong". This is doubling down on misinformation. She was wrong/ dishonest about how effective it is, and she can do harm by talking people out of using it.

she was corrected by someone in the replies who cited CDC recommendations. instead of admitting she's wrong, she lectured him even more then pretended she knew all along

Then they should delete the original tweet. They are clearly more interested in how their feed is blowing up a d saving face than saving lives
-
They even straight up admit this which is hilariouspic.twitter.com/6OaHyUgAG5

Original tweet contradicts this, and hasn’t been taken down. She’s hiding replies that point out she was wrong and flat out refusing to be corrected. But she was wrong. You can’t hide corrections in a reply without actually admitting you made a mistake
