If you are too optimistic about humanity, you just need to read the comments on a controversial tweet. Those will quickly revert you to pessimism about our species.

I feel you. But I think it helps to remember that the people most likely to reply to such tweets are those who are unreasonably outraged, making such people seem far more common than they actually are. We never hear from the countless people who have no problem with the tweets!
