I don't think we need to be aware of every limit of cognition. It's probably a lost cause. But basic and honest metacognition is enough to know we're limited cognition-wise. That is a victory on its own.

While I hesitate to add meager thoughts to such a sensible and balanced view, I think homo sapiens is for practical purposes far from reaching *sufficient* metacognition, and *knowing that* we're limited is poor compensation for the serious consequences of our natural stupidity.

It would appear that metacognition is a learned ability. If you can begin the process there is much room for improvement. Having said this, it also appears that it is out of reach for many people. The beginning unreachable no matter how much coaching.
