Respectfully disagree. Delusion is intrinsic (and necessary) to the human condition, with self delusion being the most popular flavor.

Yes, many delusions are necessary for us to live, but even these are not without harm (e.g. love, cognitive dissonance, blindness to one's mortality)

I mean, what is love, really? Glorified favoritism. One primate worshiping another. Mutual harassment. A prelude to heartbreak. The triumph of imagination over intellect. Or, my favorite (from the Devil's Dictionary): "A temporary insanity curable by marriage".
