I think it's a good thread, but I don't know if it's mostly about people in modern society being "soft" because they're not experiencing existential threats. Could be part of it, but I think a lot also has to do with people needing to have meaning in their lives.

Since things have never been better in the history of humanity than they are now, small injustices get treated as though they're massive. They don't have anything worse in their lives to compare these things to, and so they respond with maximal outrage.
