I don’t always agree with Zuby, but he’s opened a discussion that raises many questions, and his reasoning makes sense here. Thread:https://twitter.com/ZubyMusic/status/1222824330343714817 …

Watching '1917' last night really put into perspective how soft, entitled and fragile people have become, in the absence of strife. How can society recapture resilience without war, poverty & pestilence? Is mental & physical weakness an inevitable outcome of societal success?

What do u disagree with in the thread? From an evolutionary point generally speaking it seems right, but I’m no scientist. @SwipeWright @EPoe187 @G_S_Bhogal would love your thoughts

I think it's a good thread, but I don't know if it's mostly about people in modern society being "soft" because they're not experiencing existential threats. Could be part of it, but I think a lot also has to do with people needing to have meaning in their lives.

Since things have never been better in the history of humanity than they are now, small injustices get treated as though they're massive. They don't have anything worse in their lives to compare these things to, and so they respond with maximal outrage.

The brain is not just a problem-solving machine, but also a problem-creating machine, because its existence is predicated on overcoming obstacles, and thus, when untroubled, it dreams up troubles, and solves the problem of lacking problems to solve by solving invented problems.

I don't quite get how female is any different from woman, if you're going to hang up on terminology. Latin is worse than Germanic roots?
