The Industrial Revolution reduced slavery's necessity enough for abolition. The lab-meat revolution will do the same for animal slaughter. Where ethics alone failed, easy access to lab-grown KFC will give us the moral courage to view factory farming as the nightmarish evil it is.

I generally agree with you. My only question would be: Don’t my neighbour’s beloved beef cows deserve to live too? Is it really ethical to prevent a sentient creature’s life because vegans have no use for it? End a species completely, or harvest surplus members of that species?

This is like the abortion debate. My view is that you cannot commit a crime against something that doesn't exist, regardless of whether that thing could potentially exist. Otherwise we are all guilty of the mass murder of the millions of children we could have had but didn't.

I’m advocating for the grown cows that actually exist. Humans have already taken away their / nature’s ability to choose when and where to start a family, so we have to take this ethical question as seriously as we do a women’s ability to choose when and where to start a family.

I see. Well, the end of animal slaughter will be a gradual process. Long before it is fully phased out, there will likely be legislation to limit livestock breeding. The animals still alive upon total abolition could be assigned pastures on reservations, adopted as pets, etc.

.. ps there are (and will never be) no cow reservations. There are NO people willing to adopt a 1200 lb black Angus bull as a “pet”. We made them, maybe we owe them something more than extinction.

Let's hope we can breed them into more manageable and adorable forms as we did with cats and dogs.

As long as we acknowledge that the gradual end of a species harvest results in the gradual end of that species. I’m a staunch Darwinian, but this kind of “we made you, now we are going to end you.” seems a bit much.
