Nothing in this world will ever betray you, apart from your expectations.

Why would it be a "departure" for the son if not the mother? It would obviously be in the "nature" of the son to set those expectations too.
-
Whatever actions were taken by the mother, they would have been in accord with her nature. If the son knew this nature, he couldn't be betrayed—he would expect it. He could therefore only be betrayed by false expectations.

I'm simultaneously still making excuses for her in my mind while telling people who know me to have me committed if I ever trust her again. This is why theory doesn't always extend to practice IMO.

It's natural to love and trust, even for cynics like me who point out its folly.

So, it was always in her nature to betray. It doesn't mean it didn't happen. Also, let's say she abandoned her child. But, he expected her to. Does that mean no betrayal happened? All good then?

You can't really betray someone who doesn't trust you.
