Is the rape really used to control and humiliate the partner, or is physical strength used to control the partner so that sex can be obtained from her against her will, resulting in her feeling humiliated? I'd bet the latter is *far* more often the case than the former.

Everything we do comes down to sex. Absolutely everything. We have created a stunningly elaborate mating ritual, but to fail to recognize it all comes down to reproduction is to fail to understand the first thing about the process of life itself. Yet many remain blind to this.

Nice piece. Just wanted your thoughts on how rape perpetuates caste-class structures, especially in deeply heirarchical societies like India. Often seen historically assigned upper classes/castes using rape as a tool to suppress those lower down.
-
I think it's less that rape perpetuates caste class-structures, and more that caste class-structures perpetuate rape, as the power differential gives rapists a degree of immunity from repercussions.

Rape is about power and control when it is a sexual paraphilia. Rape in this case is used as a *tool* (out of many) to dominate and humiliate the victim. It is not the focus. Think your classic serial killer:https://www.psychologytoday.com/us/blog/wicked-deeds/201701/some-individuals-kill-their-own-sadistic-pleasure …

If, as you claim, the desire for power and control are part of a paraphilia, then rape is only proximately about power and ultimately about sex. As for serial killers, a *great* many of them, from Bundy to Chikatilo, were sexual sadists who ejaculated after their acts of violence

Very good article. But I think the reason the tape is about power narrative has taken hold is to do with the focus shifting away from objective truth to the experience of the victim. For the victim it is about power, not sex and so from that standpoint the claim is correct.

That's an excellent point.
