'...conspiring to have a reporter beaten up' I know that you know this is based on a fragment and facet of truth, but that it's also considered too colourful to pass-up for a busy writer who has to bash out a quick overview to a deadline.

You omitted the important caveats. Which are too many and compromising to the underlying story to detail. Which is why most other writers long-since stopped referring to the incident... it repeatedly fails the common sense test.

I won't do the work you chose to overlook (because you felt the piece needed a bit of salty seasoning) for you But mostly, it's for the same reason why so few of us are considered accessory to a conspiracy to murder, though we've listened to people venting a sincere wish to kill

You've revealed you don't know the facts of the case. Boris didn't just listen; he agreed to provide the address of the target to Guppy. Guppy didn't go through with it in the end, but it doesn't change the fact that Boris conspired with him.

... it seems more likely that you've taken undue umbrage at my earlier comments - It's simply not seen as credible enough by most people to warrant more than a brief dusting off of the story every 5 years, only to disappear again because it's clearly not sensible.
