Speech is either free for all or it isn't free. Defeat shitty words with better words...OR...just bloody ignore them. Don't like what 'they' say? Don't read, or listen to, their words. I'm not sure why something so awesome and simple, seems so difficult to understand.

Always been limits on speech- shouting fire in a crowded theater, slander, truth in advertising. Setting boundaries rarely simple. Principle of free speech is good & important. Practice remains a challenge but one that is worthwhile for a free society to pursue.
