I grew up in a rough all-white neighbourhood, so as a child was deeply self-conscious of my skin color. When I was 8 or 9 I'd put on talcum powder before school to look whiter, but rather than convince the other kids that I was like them, it convinced them I was the walking dead.

Same here, in the sense I'm much stronger now because of the experience. Humans in groups are cruel and unfair. Not sure the object of malice is more important than the dynamics at play. Bullying is universal and in all contexts.

I’m white, I couldn’t speak a word of English when I arrived here in this country though. There’s is something deeply profound about what you said, and I don’t think it is race exclusive. Mocking our differences is what binds us, at least in the UK I think it’s the case.
