Have you read @harari_yuval’s 21 Lessons yet?

I haven't, unfortunately. My queue of must-read books is already longer than any human lifespan could accommodate. I am familiar with many of Yuval's ideas, however.

I continue to be amazed at how much wisdom you can condense into a single tweet.

Technology allowed me to encounter you, though, Gur. And I adore you. So overall, it’s been a net good.

You are too wholesome for this world, Iona.

There are some very interesting insights in Ted Kaczynski's manifesto from decades ago. Now I am in no way condoning anything about him, particularly his actions, but some of his observations on technology are astonishingly prescient considering how long ago he wrote them.

I have read excerpts from it and concur, he was remarkably perceptive. What a tragic waste.

The ghost in the machine of technology is capitalist ideology. All social media are advertising platforms. Culture wars are now fought to burnish one's brand - empty moral posturing signals the beauty of one's soul. There are no atavisms at work - only mimetic frenzy...
-
Interesting. But perhaps mimetic frenzy is itself an atavism (cf. signalling).
