This truism you state frustrates the hell out of me. People do not seem able to consider fact without motive. People prescribe the worst possible motive and attack that as reason for the fact being dubious. It makes no sense at all. Misinterpretation of the illocutionary act.

Caring about the truth is thought to be so naive as to be preposterous. But I think that this mask of sophistication reveals a poverty of faith that we can communicate on the basis on a minimum shared reality.

This happens, but only because so many people have used the strategy of “simply stating facts” to push their ideology.

I agree. I think truths can lead to a very uncomfortable cognitive dissonance; many would prefer to ignore truths that potentially expose flaws in a subscribed-to ideology, rather than scrutinise their own perspective.

or perhaps it's just easier to criticize motive - criticizing facts require you to counter with other facts

Acknowledging something is true doesn't automatically mean you approve of it. But disliking it doesn't stop it being a fact.

It is interesting how often people try to dismiss stuff dissonant to their ideology by saying “it is just a theory”. It never occurs to them that a theory is built on experiments, facts, observations, falsifiable statements, ....

hard to find a fact without a BiOS or angle of view or locality óf perspective, even the very grammar is situated with reference to This Fact=+)
