There is no actual movement on a TV screen; your brain invents it. There are no actual spaces between spoken words; your brain inserts them. Human perception is like predictive text, replacing the unknown with the expected.

we are all walking around with our own renderings of the universe seeded from the data collected by our senses. we are islands of consciousness synthesizing the universe. there is nothing in the spaces between us but data

Actually it is even weirder, you see first what you expect (from memory) than visual perceptions are used to verify your model matches reality. So the model is always there and the samples are taken to see if it's correct.

That's why you get tired quicker in new environments, the model is no longer sufficient and the brain needs to work harder to process all the new inputs.

Many of the most marvelous things the brain does are accomplished without thought, without conscious effort, by autonomic region(s). Seehttp://bit.ly/2tnFyhv

https://www.jstor.org/stable/1574269?seq=1#page_scan_tab_contents … Thge relationship between actuality and perception is .... well, a large subject. There’s some interesting approaches out there (like Gibson’s reviewed here) that avoid philosophical artificialities. Cf also Samuel Todes, Body and Mind.

There is no actual god. Humans invented god in an effort to explain the unknown.
