The capacity for people who don’t scrutinise their own ideas to write and post them at a faster rate than people who do is responsible for much of the corruption of our discourse.
Steemit votes are ultimately bought with real money, so, as far as I can tell, it works a lot like the vested financial interest you mention. And I'm not sure that pricing ideas (and therefore pricing people out) is the best way to "long-term, society-wide value conversations".

Votes nevertheless create a disconnect between visibility and vested interest. That difference is an “attack surface” for corruption. Don’t mean to price people out, quite the opposite. What makes you say Idea markets would do that?

If it costs money to curate, then surely those with more money will be able to curate more (either directly or through co-conspirators).
