Or stances on different issues derive from different core attitudes and perspectives

I'm sure this has something to do with it. Although it's hard to see how the attitude that makes you pro-free-market capitalism would also make you anti-abortion.

Or there’s a limited number of basic political sentiments, and people cluster with likeminded people. Probably a feedback loop.

People work very hard to craft and maintain their identity; a large part of which is dependent upon validation & support from friends/peers When considering an issue, it has to go through this filter, and, all too often, subconsciously or otherwise, becomes reshaped accordingly.

I’m missing the logic here. A broad philosophical or political outlook/theory then *deductively* leads to stances on specific issues does it not? Tribe does not enter into it.
-
Most people don't have that broad outlook or don't even know the outlook of their tribe. But they're good at telling who belongs to the good people (their tribe) and who doesn't. Then they follow their tribe in their preferences. Case in point: Republicans warming up to tariffs.

Or/and that tribes are formed around, and comprised of, people with common beliefs....
-
Also true, but common group identities are more important than beliefs. Many know which tribe they belong to and then receive their belief system from their tribes.
