Is “labyrinthine tangle of countless forces vying for supremacy” truly the best description of that? It’s seems in the first instance overblown (countless? Really?) and melodramatic. Could have put a period after “arena” and not lost anything, or put “complex” before political

Can you count the number of forces at work in politics? If not, then 'countless' is apt. The "melodramatic" last part is a labyrinthine tangle of words to evoke the labyrinthine tangle of forces. It's just me having fun. Don't let it ruin your day.
