I don't think we're all doomed. But I think that is an astute take on education. Many of us are overeducated these days.

We need to understand that we are not predominantly rational beings. We have the ability to reason, but we are governed to a much greater extent by our emotions and appetites.

Not necessarily. If you educate people well in the practices of critical thinking, together with providing a good grounding in psychology and history, then they will learn how often ppl can fool both themselves and others. This knowledge can be protective

Children are indoctrinated with religion by their parents and at infant school before they are old enough to have developed critical reasoning skills. They believe what grown-ups tell them. Sadly as a teacher I see it every day at work. It's a disgusting breach of a child's trust
