This assumes the individual is at least somewhat cognizant of their assessment being superficial. I think it's unlikely that partisans notice their using tragedy as ammo, and instead, genuinely process tragedy as either assault from the enemy or a win for their team.

This is standard formula across the board within the current sociopolitical zeitgeist. Recognizing the universality of human tragedy is the biggest impediment to partisan political expediency. So we downplay the ones that don't serve us w/ glib equivalency & trumpet ones that do.

Practically speaking, one must soberly calculate the political ramifications of catastrophes. If you're a poltical leader, you had better!! But politics can't be permitted to blot out all other considerations.

There is an increasing trend to jump on something since it fits someone's narrative or position on something. One needs to be willing to abandon deep-seated beliefs, even biases, and seek the truth.
