"save the Earth"? Wtf does the earth need saving from a few degrees of warming? Even if we are supposed to read "life on earth" it still makes no sense, a warmer earth would support more life not less.

Adding math to any argument tends to be used to give it the appearance of rigor. But math and any other scientific tool remains garbage-in-garbage-out. You can calculate a sort of 'local maximum' for an effect you ostensibly desire, but it has to hold up to common sense scrutiny.

Humanity wiping itself out would certainly be the most efficient way for the human effect on the climate to be eliminated. And some people are actually OK with that. But being the most effective by one metric is obviously not the optimal overall solution (for most of us).

So much cleverness goes into obfuscating the issues. I chose to have no kids because I have no confidence humans will do the right thing, regardless of the available brainpower. But my siblings made up for me so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Yes, any human solution that requires contraction, or going backwards is almost always simply invalid. Humans are much better at technological procedural innovation than simply NOT committing behaviors. This is essentially the problem with abstinence training in general.

This is my issue with much of the political debate. We have to focus on proactively building and encouraging activity rather than focus on restriction and demolition.
