This is so true. I find myself wanting to avoid reading what I disagree with, and have on occasion had to force myself to read opposing viewpoints simply because I didn't like what they had to say.

I make it a point to read the same article from multiple partisan sources to see how either side thinks and use that as a spring board to examine and adjust my own beliefs. I've even gone as far as to read various extremist manifestos to try and understand their mindset.

I had a friend at work that considered himself an expert historian and read everything . He was convinced the Jewish people caused WW2 and got what they deserved. Your point is correct you need to read everything not just stay in your comfort zone.
