Our society seems to be rather gullible about falling for hoaxes, false flags, and false allegations. What are some practical ways we could increase skepticism, due diligence, due process, and objectivity?

Should the law also be changed to impose fines on politicians and public officials for misrepresenting, for disassembling, etc. Who will be covered and who will not be covered? What about a prosecutor who does not disclose full facts. Where do you stop?

There already exist laws against lying in certain arenas (e.g. defamation, fraud, purgery, etc). It's pretty easy to keep things clear cut.

I don't think it need be as intrusive as might be assumed. We already have libel laws—they could be simply extended to coverage of incidents involving people. It would only affect news coverage, so wouldn't stop people expressing slanted takes on incidents in opinion sections.

A small step in the right direction. All apologies must be printed on the front page the whole page. All TV news make their apologies every hour at the top of the hour for 24 hours.

The main problem is the underfunding of media (because we buy less print and online news is mostly free), which leads to clickbait, bad research, fake news etc. Subscription may help. There should also be a publicly funded media channel not belonging to wealthy owners.

If there is any limitations on speech I'd be against them. So this fails to satisfy, but given the violation of individual free speech rights, especially in your country, IF the guvment is to take action on speech that is the way it should go.

I can’t see any way to effectively regulate this. Seems like it would either be chilling speech (if people are afraid of discussing contentious issues) or the legislation would be so specific it would be toothless (like having to prove ill intent would be nigh impossible)

Although I shudder at such a proposal, I am left wondering what else can be done.
