I disagree with the "We are all virtue-signalling" part. Putting forward your extremely unpopular opinions in the hope of making the world a better place is not the same as expressing extremely popular opinions so that the world will find you better.

Contrarians are often the biggest virtue-signallers of all, because rebelliousness is now also a virtue.

Exactly.

Then is it not merely justice?

Justice can be personal. Social justice is justice with regard to populations within societies.

I disagree. I don't engage in arguments to signal anything about me, rather because I believe they're correct or true. It's fallacious to believe that advocating a particular moral argument makes somebody a good person, they might just be a Machiavellian optimising for the crowd.

You do sometimes engage in political discourse on here, opining on what you think is good or bad. You may believe you are not signalling, but one's true motivations are alien to them. Truth itself is a virtue. When I say we are all virtue-signallers, I don't mean all of the time.

I’m not. I’m only interested in individual justice. The term “social justice” seems like a bit of an oxymoron to me
-
Even the championing of individual rights can be considered a form of social justice (unless of course you want only justice for yourself personally and no one else, which I doubt).
