Act 10:28 has moulded the thinking of western scientists for ever, even those who were aethists. If all the animals were for eating, then you don't really bother about their consciousness, do you?

I wouldn't say it was Acts 10:28 (maybe you mean Leviticus 11?), as most people don't know what that says. I'd say it's more cognitive dissonance. A few days ago, at a family gathering, we ate steak with savour and relish while marvelling at the cuteness of baby goats on TV.

I saw the line stating the questionable ethics of measuring the consciousness of animals, and my immediate thoughts were "imagine if someone applied the same research to this in human consciousness at different points of human life."
