Utopians believe their idealism is evidence of a greater imagination—an ability to envision how much better the world could be. But really, they lack imagination, as they can’t envision how much worse the world could be—and it could be a lot more worse than it could be better.

So what's the optimal perspective then? Is aiming for something less than ideal/best better than aiming for the ideal/best, just because we'll never achieve the ideal/best (if indeed we really won't—have we attained knowledge of its unattainability?)?
