Contrarian: 'Christmas did not exist before Die Hard. Because tail risk.' Historians: 'Here is evidence that it did.' Contrarian: 'You are all imbeciles who don't live in the real world and aren't as rich like me. Gabish?'

Taleb is a cartoon character. He spends all his time warning others of complacency against tail risks while being extremely complacent about the tail risk that he will be wrong about something. He is blind to the black swan of his own ignorance.

Ah I see there’s a Christmas celebration gathering of IYIs and head-IYI
@G_S_Bhogal is also present. How lovely, all the non-risk taking crowd who lover to profess expertise over things in which they have little to no skin in the game. Also clearly upset that Taleb is rich.3 replies 0 retweets 1 like -

It was actually Taleb who professed expertise. Also, 1. You don't know what risks we take. 2. You don't know what risks (if any) Taleb takes. 3. You call us intellectual-yet-idiots, yet follow us on Twitter. I'd say that just makes you a simple idiot.

Lastly: 1) I’m pretty sure you don’t take risks related to the things you opine about a lot (US politics, Syria) 2) it’s pretty clear what kind of risks Taleb takes as a public figure and investor/trader, just to name 2 big sources of ACTUAL significant risk

I have taken risks against my life with regard to Islamism. And no, it's not clear that Taleb takes any risks. But even if we are charitable and assume that he does take risks wrt investing, how the hell does that qualify him to discuss IQ or any other aspect of evo psych?

I think Taleb is a clever man with some great ideas, but he also has a huge ego that causes him to overestimate the rectitude of his opinions. His expertise is in one area of mathematics, and he thinks he can understand *everything* through it, but that's not how the world works.

He also keeps claiming, like you, that he takes BIG RISKS (TM) in the REAL WORLD (TM), while everyone else has no SKIN IN THE GAME (TM). This is self-serving rubbish. He likely takes *some* risks, just like everyone else. But risk alone doesn't make him right about anything.
