Woke intellectuals think they’re liberating the masses, but really the masses are liberating them—farmers grow their food, cops protect their rights, sewage workers clean their shit—all so that they're free to languish in their heads and indulge their post-real saviour complexes.

Except that cops don't protect anyone's rights. They enforce the will of strangers on their neighbors.

Intellectuals are a part of the working masses. Intellect is not binary and societal roles not fixed. Wealth and freedom =/ intellect, and enslavement is not reserved for society's core service providers. Intellectuals innovate through understanding, with the aim of betterment.

There isn't really an arguement here without delving into philosophy of society and the bad actors. Intellectuals aren't an enemy of those on the shop floor. It is an orchestra.

And the thing is; they're embarrassed to engage in higher-order, better paying jobs like software engineering, even though those kinds of jobs also liberate the masses to some degree. People don't realize that most of them are playing a part in progressing society.

Quite. Given food, water, a place to be and a distance government protecting from roving gangs and foreign invasion, any ludicrous philosophy appears to work.

Isn’t that the proper hierarchy of things though? This is the way it ought to be. Albeit with an appreciation and sense for order.

In fairness intellectuals have the time and energy to investigate the systems (economic and political) which the working masses are simply too busy and tired at the end of the day to learn about. But which still affect all of us.
