Unfortunately, it's not an isolated incident. A couple of days ago I read an article which claimed Star Wars was too white. And then we have the entire field of grievance studies. Sure, most on the left don't believe this stuff, but many of its most influential voices do.

I've heard this argument a thousand times before, and don't find it any more convincing now than the first time. I was using "the left" as a metonym, because, on Twitter, everything must be generalised.

No. I just assume that my audience has enough intelligence to understand that when I say "the left", I don't mean every single leftist in existence, just as you assume I have enough intelligence to know that arguments can't have literal friends.

And by the way, your initial premise is flawed. The man I screenshotted is not an "anonymous nutter", he's the editor-in-chief of a popular video games magazine, and indicative of the general sentiments expressed in such publications.

He is an influential voice within the left, and his view is shared by many others. Note that I didn't say he was the left, but rather that the left had allowed itself to be hijacked by people like him.
