Since it's Halloween, I may as well tell you the technical difference between terror and horror. Terror is the fear felt in anticipation of an event, the heart-racing dread of what's coming; while horror is the fear felt after it, the festering trauma of a nightmarish memory.

The horror/terror distinction originates in film theory, where most of the fear is derived from suspense (terror) or shock (horror). Since the scares in movies are brief, there's not much focus on the fear during an event, but I'd guess it'd be called a fright, or simply a scare.
