If I write a tweet criticising the left, I get swarmed with people who assume I’m on the right, and vice versa. It's as if these people cannot comprehend that someone could see flaws in anyone other than the enemy team.

I originally opposed the SJ crowd, because I thought we were on the same team, & they were making some crazy claims and using dodgy tactics. When I more fully embraced the liberty/authority dimension, I saw them as being on the other team, and I started defending them more.

I am very sensitive to situations where people criticize that which they don't understand. When I catch myself doing it, I am mortally embarrassed. When I hear others doing it, I am compelled to try to help people see things from the other point of view.

If only that type of introspection was the rule rather than the exception! The level of discourse would be so much higher. As a right-of-center sort, I find the critiques of conservatism much more interesting and honest when they come from inside the tent.
