1. People will believe what makes sense to them. 2. People will patronize those that believe something they don't. 3. No religion promises a happy life. Most will claim quite the opposite, actually.

When it comes to religion, it seems we can safely, and even accurately say: 'it's all true'. One man's poison is another man's assurance of paradise. The difficulty in the journey is understanding/gaining insight into the motivations for 'believing' anything in the first place.

I think you might be suffering some selection bias here. In general I'm noticing that atheist thinkers are falling into some pretty glaring cognitive traps when religion comes up. Please consider that we've been religious as long as we've been human, it's not a flake of barbarity

Maybe striving for meaning (what faith and religion bring) in life is more important than being at peace...in the midst of the striving peace may come, but purhaps it is not the ultimate aim
