I'd say that religion, which tends to reduce the universe down to something that revolves around the believer, is the archetypal example of shrinking the world to fit the mind.

Some in my family are Jehovah's Witnesses. They tried to indoctrinate me into that shit, until I turned 8 or 9, when I started asking too many questions.

My daughter had questions and they either ignored her or told her that wasn’t important.... now her father is dead because he refused blood and his hemoglobin was <6 when his heart finally gave out...

What you say is very true. However, there are levels of comprehension, and by changing how you think and perceive the world, you can comprehend a little more than you otherwise would.
