This is classical way of derailing a discussion which doesn't go in your favour, redefine all words, so that everyone keeps on arguing about the words and the topic is forgotten. All demagogues do it.

There’s something as elegant as it is unsettling in viewing this phenomenon through a purely memetic lens, devoid of any invocation of conspiracy or higher agency. That some certain ideas can bring about these manifestation in their hosts, leading to their prevalence, is scary.

I'm no social justice warriror but 'race' and its derivatives are are erroneous and harmful causes of prejudice. I try not to use them. I prefer bigotry, xenophobia, ethnocentrism, ethnophobia and prejudice.

In Dutch you would use 'discriminatie', discrimination. I never hear a native English speaker use that word. Is there something about that word that I should know, because it seems a perfect fit for situations like this one.

And when most I've heard the same groups of racists who used to talk about foreigners, they've simply shifted their rhetoric from certain ethnic groups to a specific religion. Which makes me think the message has mildly shifted but not the intention, division and power.
