The death penalty is not meant to be a deterrent. It’s meant as a punishment for the most heinous of crimes. It’s justice for the families.

This concept of justice is popular, but I find it to be extremely childish. It amounts to nothing more than the state getting revenge on someone else's behalf.

Is jail more economic than death penalty?

The death penalty can remove the burden from the family of the victims, and the state can do this for them. As for death not being a deterrent, it would then cease to be a penalty to that person anyhow, so that ethic is removed.

Life in jail can achieve exactly the same thing for the families of victims.

I think there are certainly individuals who deserve the death problem, however due to the practical constraints that you mentioned (economic, political, judicial, etc), it can never be fairly practised in a civilised society.

Agree absolutely. I am shocked by this decision. Our decision to abolish the death penalty was a mark of our civilisation. Listen to the words of the mother of James Foley.
